PREPARATION
Professional Styling
Here are some notes from stylist Andrea Todd on how to prepare for your sexy little photo shoot when you will be styled in the studio:
- Sleep and Hydrate. Get a good night’s rest. This will help with dark circles and you will look and feel refreshed.
- Hair. Wash hair the day before, slightly dirty hair is best for styling. If you have oily hair and feel it looks best when clean, then come with clean dry hair.
- Skin. Moisturize your face and body, especially in those dry winter months.
- Hair Removal. If you chose to have any waxing done, please do so a few days before so your skin will have time to recover.
- Clothes. Try on things before the session to make sure they fit properly.
- Eating (day of). Keep it light, heavy meals can make you feel uncomfortable or bloated.
Please bring:
- Foundation: should match your skin (almost) perfectly, test on chin and neck
- Concealer: should be a shade lighter than your foundation
- Powder: even if you usually don’t use it, bring it!
- Mascara
DONT’s
- Don’t try any new products. New makeup or cleansers could cause you to have a bad reaction, even really great brands can cause you to break out by bringing impurities to the surface. If you want to get some new makeup try to do so a few weeks before your session, to make sure you don’t have a reaction.
- Don’t get a facial or use a facial mask. Facials and masque thoroughly cleanse the skin, for a few days to a week after impurities will surface and can cause breakouts.

What to Wear
If you’re coming in for a sexy little boudoir portrait by Rachel Hadiashar, here is a list of things to consider bringing in for the shoot:
- a cute bra-panty combo in black or a darker color
- skin-toned or light pink undies for implied nudity shots using sheets or strategic body placement (no delicates will be shown in your photos
- at least one flattering new lingerie piece that makes you feel super sexy
- a cozy sweater to wrap into (gray, white, pink, brown, etc. softer colors and knits preferred if possible)
- a pair of dark heels (more for posture than anything, but they will definitely be in photos)
- your ipod loaded with a playlist that makes you want to dance
Full styled sessions usually last about 3 hours (1 hour for styling, 1-2 hours for photography) so feel free to bring snacks!
We welcome bringing in a close girlfriend for moral support during your studio boudoir session, but request that this be limited to one additional person, and advance notice given if you would like someone to join you.

If you’re coming in for a sexy little business portrait, here are some tips from photographer Rachel Hadiashar:
- Clothes: bring a few different tops, ranging from business casual to fancy. Bring clothes that make you feel sexy and confident! We’ll probably have time for two different outfits.
- Jewelry: in a couple of different styles – no need to bring your entire jewelry box!
- Shoes: consider wearing heels for body posture, but realize many images will be 3/4 length and the neckline is more important than the shoe.
- Attention to details: flattering undergarments, well-tailored clothing, and jewelry that’s been shined… little things can make a big difference.
- Hygiene: see Andrea’s tips above on resting up, hydrating, and in general treating yourself like a queen before the shoot.
- Styling: If you do not choose to invest in having Andrea style you up at the studio ($100 for business portraits), we highly recommend going for a blowout at your favorite salon or Portland’s own Blowout: a blowdry bar. The gals at blowout also say: “if they choose a mini-makeover (instead of full-blown makeup) they should come wearing base/foundation if they normally wear it. The full makeover does include base. Also lashes are a great add-on and look pretty darn amazing in photographs.”
Professional hair and makeup can make a HUGE difference in the outcome of your photos, and your excitement to use them for everything after the session. A worthy add-on to the portrait session. -RH
If you want to bring a friend in for moral support, we love that! Please give us a heads-up if you plan to bring someone into the studio with you during your sexy little business portrait.
