Mary Davis, 76

“My grandmother was right. “Pretty is as pretty does.” True beauty comes from within. I love seeing more and more plus size women who are confident and comfortable in their own skin. Attractive = pleasing to all my senses.”

Mary Davis at age 76

Not only is Mary proud of being known to others as dependable, she is also a creature of habit with the same steady morning routine for the past 50 years. She delights in a warm cup of coffee to begin her day, while solving the daily NYT crossword puzzle and perusing the news – no later than 6am. Mary’s internal drive and work ethic made her successful and productive in her career – holding roles in banking, investment accounting, computer systems, payroll and benefit accounting and management. She came through the computer age, starting with punch cards, then mini computers, evolving to mainframe computers and finally PC systems. Fast forward to the present day, comfortable in her life of retirement, Mary enjoys being close to her son’s family – counting two grandchildren among her favorite people in the world.

With bright eyes and a steady gaze, Mary dispels age-related misconceptions – as she is young in spirit, compassionate, reliable and fun. She doesn’t worry much about what other people think of her as the years pass. She views age as a state of mind – over the age of 50 you are still learning new things. Mary believes everyone is responsible for their own happiness; you make it happen for yourself. ‘Instead of worrying about what I cannot control, I shift my energy to what I can create.’ While Mary’s parents have been gone for over 20 years she still follows in her mother’s example by making eye contact and greeting people that she meets on her walks, starting up a conversation with the clerks when she is shopping, and exchanging pleasantries with a seatmate on the bus, as she has a conviction that nobody needs to feel invisible. Mary has a travel bucket list to journey to every state – with only 10 states remaining. In 2022 she traveled extensively including trips to Costa Rica, Canada, and Joshua Tree National Park.
